Congrats! You’ve made it to that golden point in the school year when you can see summer but still have time to help your child end on a high note. That also means it’s likely testing time. Whether it’s state tests, school-district-specific standardized testing, or “just” end-of-the-year finals, the last few months can cause kids anxiety.
My mom was a pro at guiding me through test time. I passed her guidance down to my nephews, whom I help raise. Her mantra was “Read each question twice to make sure you understand it. If you’re not sure, keep going and come back to it.” It worked for me! But what I remember most was her “brain food,” a snack she claimed would make me smarter. I helped her make the batch, combining Chex Mix, almonds, raisins, cashews, butter, and brown sugar. While I doubt it instantly upped my IQ, it did, magically, make me feel smarter. It boosted my self-esteem and eased my test nerves. And you can easily do the same thing for your child.
